requests are back and new music to request!

I don't know why the requests stopped working, but they're back now. I unplugged my router and everything started working again. I swear, I didn't mess with the settings!

Okay, now for the new music!

- Colin Meloy (The Decemberists), "Sings Live!"

- El Jezel, "The Warm Frequency"
Go listen to them here!

- Fleet Foxes, "Fleet Foxes"

- The Kills, "Midnight Boom"

- MGMT, "Oracular Spectacular"

- Mission of Burma reissues: "Signals, Calls and Marches," "Vs." and "The Horrible Truth About Burma"
I already had "Signals" and "Vs." but yeah, I bought the Matador reissues. They included live DVDs!!

- Nada Surf, "Lucky"

- Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, "Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!"

- The Replacements Rhino reissues! "Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash," "Stink," "Hootenanny" and "Let It Be"
Reissues are eating up all my money. But it's worth it to finally get "If Only You Were Lonely" on CD.

- Silver Jews, "Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea"

- Sun Kil Moon, "April"

- Wolf Parade, "At Mount Zoomer"

requests are broken!

I was going to post a list of new music to request...but something is wrong with the request pages! I'm hoping I'll figure out the problem and fix it later today. When/if I do, I'll post a list of new music.

connection problems and a few new albums added

The station was down for several hours Sunday. I just figured out why in the last half hour. One of my cats must have sat on the modem and switched something off. Some of the lights on the modem were still on though, so I thought my connection was down. I guess they like sitting on monitors, keyboards and other electronic equipment because they're nice and warm. Damn cats. Anyway, everything is back up now and during the downtime I added Spoon's "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" and Nick Lowe's "Jesus of Cool" (aka "Pure Pop For Now People").

good news!

This is a message from Brandon at LoudCity:
"Thanks to all the pressure you and your listeners put on Congress, they finally took action yesterday and leaned on SoundExchange. Rep Edward Markey (D-MA) (Energy & Commerce Sub-com) called for a round table discussion between the parties thus forcing some sanity into the situation.

"SoundExchange has stated before Congress that they will not enforce the CRB rates come July 15 and it's to be business as usual for Webcasters until a fresh round of negotiations establishes new rates. So for LoudCity this means we pay the old rates until we hash out what is expected to be realistic rates. Furthermore it looks like the CRB (Copyright Royalty Board) is cut out from this round of negotiations and Congress will be checking in from time to time to make sure things things stay fair and level.

"All of this happened because you persevered with phone calls to Congress. So Congrats, you've made a mark in history! You're all going to be broadcasting without any needless stress.

"We still need to shoot for the IREA (Internet Radio Equality Act) passed, because it will have a positive impact on future CRB rate settings and the IREA is still fresh on the minds on Congress. In fact we got a handful of new supporters yesterday, so we're up to 140 supporters between the House and Senate which is incredible for just a few months of lobbying. So please keep up the phone calls. They matter."

Internet Radio "Day of Silence" Tuesday June 26!

The new royalty rates, which go into effect on July 15, exceed 100% of most webcasters' total revenues! These rates are also retroactive to Jan 1, 2006! (Read more here.)

To protest these rates and encourage you to take action and contact your Congressional representatives, Gimme Noise is participating in the Day of Silence, by silencing our programming for the day (beginning at 12am PST/3am EST).

We ask that you excuse the interruption of our normal programming, and ask that you take action to help ensure this silence is not permanent. Please call your Congressional Representatives today. Click the link below Save Net Radio
for instructions how. Thank you!

The Arcade Fire Stole My Basketball!

I was at their Berkeley show on June 2nd. Win Butler talked a little bit on stage about almost getting arrested at a Cal Berkeley gym earlier that day. One of the guys he argued with claims that Win stole his basketball. The guy started a blog about it. Kinda pathetic but funny. Also see: http://arcadefiredidntstealdudesbasketball.blogspot.com/ (which is supposedly written by Win's brother Will but who really knows).

Go here to download a full Arcade Fire show from 2/17/2007 at New York's Judson Memorial Church (originally webcast live on NPR.org).

Save Internet Radio!

If the rates go up as planned, thousands of internet stations (like this one!) will be forced to shut down. Please send this to friends and/or repost this on My Space!

Thanks,
Renee

Please write or call your representative and ask them to co-sponsor this bill. Bill number H.R. 2060

I am urging everyone that loves Internet Radio to please take a few minutes right now and send this email from link below to your local representatives. It will keep Internet Radio from being taken away from us all and will NOT allow the major labels to force their idea of what talent is, down our throats.

BELIEVE ME THIS WILL TAKE NO MORE THEN 5 MINUTES!!! PLEASE HELP!!

From http://www.savenetradio.org/about/index.html:

"On March 2, 2007 the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB), which oversees sound recording royalties paid by Internet radio services, increased Internet radio's royalty burden between 300 and 1200 percent and thereby jeopardized the industry’s future.

"At the request of the Recording Industry Association of America, the CRB ignored the fact that Internet radio royalties were already double what satellite radio pays, and multiplied the royalties even further. The 2005 royalty rate was 7/100 of a penny per song streamed; the 2010 rate will be 19/100 of a penny per song streamed. And for small webcasters that were able to calculate royalties as a percentage of revenue in 2005 – that option was quashed by the CRB, so small webcasters’ royalties will grow exponentially!

"Before this ruling was handed down, the vast majority of webcasters were barely making ends meet as Internet radio advertising revenue is just beginning to develop. Without a doubt most Internet radio services will go bankrupt and cease webcasting if this royalty rate is not reversed by the Congress, and webcasters’ demise will mean a great loss of creative and diverse radio. Surviving webcasters will need sweetheart licenses that major record labels will be only too happy to offer, so long as the webcaster permits the major label to control the programming and playlist. Is that the Internet radio you care to hear?"
