OAKLAND, Calif. -- Pandora is one of the nation's most popular Web radio services, with about 1 million listeners daily. Its Music Genome Project allows customers to create stations tailored to their own tastes. It is one of the 10 most popular applications for Apple's iPhone and attracts 40,000 new customers a day.
Yet the burgeoning company may be on the verge of collapse, according to its founder, and so may be others like it.
"We're approaching a pull-the-plug kind of decision," said Tim Westergren, who founded Pandora. "This is like a last stand for webcasting."
I just read about it on allmusic.com and nearly freaked out. If you know me, you know I fucking LOVE Paul Westerberg. Hey, this website got its name from one of his songs! The new album is called "49:00" and it's only available as a 49 minute long, 1 track download on Amazon.com. Did I mention that it's only 49 cents? I'm gonna download it in a minute. You know, once I stop screaming.
From the eMusic feature on the reissue: "All these creepy, strange memories — "I don't know, why was I there? What happened here?" Searching, searching, searching for a happy, healthy security that you don't know how to create. My mom said she cried when she first heard Exile in Guyville, and I remember thinking, "that's just weird," but now I listen to it and I can't get through it. I just start crying for that poor girl. I think when you're young, you don't realize that there's another way to be. Everybody's sad. They're drinking to cover it and they're fucking to cover it, but everybody's sad when they're young."
"Exile in Guyville" is 15 years old! Wow. So it came out when *I* was 15! Phair was 26 years old when the album was released.
I don't know why the requests stopped working, but they're back now. I unplugged my router and everything started working again. I swear, I didn't mess with the settings!
- Mission of Burma reissues: "Signals, Calls and Marches," "Vs." and "The Horrible Truth About Burma" I already had "Signals" and "Vs." but yeah, I bought the Matador reissues. They included live DVDs!!
- The Replacements Rhino reissues! "Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash," "Stink," "Hootenanny" and "Let It Be" Reissues are eating up all my money. But it's worth it to finally get "If Only You Were Lonely" on CD.
I was going to post a list of new music to request...but something is wrong with the request pages! I'm hoping I'll figure out the problem and fix it later today. When/if I do, I'll post a list of new music.
The station was down for several hours Sunday. I just figured out why in the last half hour. One of my cats must have sat on the modem and switched something off. Some of the lights on the modem were still on though, so I thought my connection was down. I guess they like sitting on monitors, keyboards and other electronic equipment because they're nice and warm. Damn cats. Anyway, everything is back up now and during the downtime I added Spoon's "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" and Nick Lowe's "Jesus of Cool" (aka "Pure Pop For Now People").
